Our Philosophy

Why an Imperative?

At The Human Imperative (HX), we believe that transformation begins within. Our philosophy is the bedrock beneath everything we build, every conversation we have, and every person we serve.

The deliberate erosion of our humanity is accelerating, and most of what passes for progress is making it worse. All of this while we have allowed for the systematic atrophy of our uniquely human skills.

These skills take time to develop; the time to begin is now.

Our Mission

Education ✦ Development ✦ Activism

We are driven by an optimistic vision of the unleashing of human potential to create a better, brighter, and more collaborative world.

Grounded in the pursuit of a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, we understand that a new kind of leader is needed. We are committed to supporting the development of these skills.

We envision a world where creativity and collaboration empower us to tackle humanity's greatest challenges.

Our Mission in Action

01.

Rehumanization

Emotional intelligence, imagination, compassion, and genuine connection are not soft skills. They are the most important capabilities we have, and they have been neglected long enough.

We will rehumanize the systems, organizations, and ways of engaging that govern how we lead, decide, and engage with one another.

02.

Challenge the Status Quo

Just because it is the way things are, doesn't mean that is the way it has to be.

We will confront the barriers and biases that keep people performing instead of becoming and model the courage to believe that something better is not only possible but necessary.

From this place, we build something more authentic and human in its place.

03.

Develop Future-Ready Leaders

The world needs leaders courageous enough to do the work of intentional evolution.

We develop leaders who lead from the inside out, through self-knowledge and the willingness to become who they were always meant to be.

We will navigate change and shape a brighter future through connection, creativity, collaboration, and compassion.

Values Framework

Our values govern how we build, show up, and engage. Leadership and Courage are the north-south axis that ground us in all we do.

The supporting values keep us aligned to our mission and the courageous leadership required.

Leadership

Leadership is not power; it is empowerment. The way we lead must evolve. Ego, positional authority, and pretending have no place here. The capacity to care, humility, and the ability to see people will define the future of leadership. Those who inspire and cultivate trust will light the way.

Connection

Connection is built by seeking what binds us together while staying curious about our differences. It involves asking good questions, looking for relationships between disparate ideas, and cultivating our capacity to care. Connection reinvigorates communities and opens pathways to new solutions.

Imagination

Imagination is a childlike wonder that expands the field of possibility. It involves creativity, exploration, and the permission to dream. It helps reduce limiting beliefs and self-imposed barriers, challenging the fear of being different. This is how we dream, create, and build.

Courage

Small acts of bravery become courage. We believe in challenging the status quo, standing in our power, and standing up for what is right. Courage is not just about being different; it is about recognizing that living authentically is essential. It is the source of strength to face challenges with resolve.

Learning

A willingness to be wrong creates space for humility and new possibilities. It requires curiosity, inquiry over assumption, and synthesis to form new insights. This commitment to continuous learning is essential to our growth and to the growth of those we serve.

Belief

Belief in better, belief in the possible, and belief in one another are fundamental. The audacity to believe that better is not only possible but achievable is what allows us to pull it forward, pursue it, and persevere. This is the driving force that propels us.

Our Foundation

Our foundation consists of the core characteristics that guide us and the principles we strive to embody in everything we do.

Flow - A path to fulfillment where a state of ease and reduced resistance allows us to engage with energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process.

Purpose - The reason for which something is done, created, or for which it exists.

Openness - Being receptive to new information, ideas, opinions, and arguments as well as accessibility, accountability, and experience.

Motivation - Internal desires to learn, grow, and contribute to something meaningful.

Compassion - The desire to be present for and alleviate the suffering of others.

Core Convictions

Returning to our shared humanity is the path.

  1. Humanity is not a liability. In a world of human design, we cannot become obsolete.

  2. Self-awareness is not enough. The most important thing you can know is what you don't know. Self-knowledge requires intention.

  3. Uniquely human skills are your true intelligence. Human capabilities like empathy, imagination, and connection are the true hard skills.

  4. Transformation begins within. The only person you have the power to change is yourself.

  5. When you change, everything around you changes. It starts with perspective that powers the chain reaction that follows.

  6. Be Human First. Before any interaction, any decision, any system, remember that you are a human and they are a human. Start there.
